Babb Family Make History as Father/Daughter Win at Beech Ridge

Scarborough, Maine (May 20, 2006) - Bobby Babb and Kelsey Babb made history on Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway becoming the first Father/Daughter combination in history to win feature races on the same night. Dad Bobby recorded his first win in two years by taking the NASCAR Dodge weekly Series Pro Series feature race. Sixteen-year old daughter Kelsey posted the win in the Road Runner division. Kelsey Babb becomes a third generation winner at Beech Ridge for the Babb family.

In the 40-lap Pro Series race, Steve Berry took the lead at the start and held it to the caution flag on lap 4. The complexion of the race changed at that point as Dan McKeage forced his way in front of Berry but was not quite clear of Berry’s car raising the anger of Berry, who proceeded to remove McKeage from the lead. Berry and McKeage were sent to the rear allowing Bobby Babb a free pass to the front.

Babb would have to endure a final caution flag on lap 25 and a challenge from Bill Rodgers to claim the win. Rodgers finished second with Trevor Sanborn third and Steve Carrier fourth. Dan McKeage recovered to finish in the fifth position.

Jason Larrabee dominated the 35-lap Sport Series feature race leading all of the laps. Larrabee had two early caution flags on laps 2 and 9 but other than that, he went home free to take the win. Clyde Hennessey was second with Robert Emery third. Sally Gherardi and Don Morse were fourth and fifth at the finish.

Scott Berry took the lead with just 4 laps remaining to win the Wildcat feature race. Mike Nest led the opening laps until Lewis Anderson took over on lap 10. Anderson relinquished the lead to Buddy Minott on lap 13. While working through lapped traffic on lap 26, Berry took the lead and held on for the win. Minott finished second with David Grysk third. Brian Caswell and Russ Thistlewood were fourth and fifth.

Kelsey Babb held up her end of the history making night by winning the Road Runner main event. Carl Bergeron led the first 2 laps until Paul Lund took over on lap 10 but his run at the front ended 4 laps later when he exploded a motor while leading. Kelsey Babb took over following the restart and cruised the final 5 laps to take the win over reigning champion Jamie Heath and Brian Beaulieu. Shawn Brackett and Wayne Wildes rounded out the top five place finishers.

This Saturday night it is the annual Budweiser 100 for the Sport Series division with the big payday waiting at the checkered flag for the winner. Qualifying gets underway at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the Pro Series, Wildcat and Road Runner divisions rounding out the program.

On Sunday night, it is the first round of the Day of Destruction series with a starting time of 6:00 p.m.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway is located on Holmes Road in Scarborough and is the only NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series race track in Maine.
